Unalaska pollution case settled for $2 million

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — A Seattle seafood processor will pay nearly $2 million in civil penalties to settle state and federal allegations of illegal discharges of ammonia and other waste from its Unalaska facility.

KMXT-TV reports that U.S. Attorney Karen Loeffler announced the settlement Wednesday.

Beginning in 2005, regulators say, Unisea discharged ammonia and other pollutants from the facility into surrounding waters and failed to tell authorities in a timely way about two large releases of ammonia in 2007.
