Several traffic accidents have taken place in the metro area this morning.

In downtown Vancouver, Washington Street was closed this morning between East 15th and Mill Plain Boulevard. Chris Moen of the Vancouver Fire Department said a commercial box truck and an SUV were involved in a sideswipe wreck that resulted in the truck’s diesel tank being lodged beneath the bumper of the SUV and punctured.

The street has since reopened.

There were no injuries in the crash. Firefighters quickly responded to the about 8:45 a.m. incident, separated the vehicles and tipped the tank on its end to stop the leak.

“Immediately, that stopped it,” Moen said.

Oil sheen was visible in a small pool of water at the intersection of Washington Street and East 15th Street. The commercial truck provides pick-up service of used appliances. Absorbent has been spread across the roadway to sop up leaked fuel.

The Washington Department of Ecology, Clark County EMS and Clark County Public Works all contributed to the cleanup. The Vancouver Police Department is investigating the wreck.

Two accidents occurred on Interstate 5 southbound between Main Street and Fourth Plain. One person involved in the rear-end crash near the Fourth Plain exit was transported to an area hospital with neck injuries, said Steve Schatzel, a Washington State Patrol spokesman. Additional details were not immediately available.
