SEATTLE (AP) — A Seattle man has been sentenced to seven years in prison for using his infant son as a shield in an armed confrontation with King County sheriff’s deputies.

Federal Judge Ricardo S. Martinez also sentenced 32-year-old Panhnha Keo Tang to three years of probation for being a felon in possession of a firearm. Martinez set the sentence above the guidelines range, calling Tang a dangerous individual. The judge says the longer sentence is necessary to protect the public.

Martinez says he was surprised no one was shot or hurt in the confrontation after Tang and a neighbor got into a heated argument last May over the use of the laundry room in their apartment complex.
