North Dakota edges Houston Baptist 65-63

OREM, Utah (AP) — Patrick Mitchell made two free throws with a second remaining and North Dakota beat Houston Baptist 65-63 in the Great West Conference tournament semifinals Friday night.

The third-seeded Fighting Sioux (18-14) advanced to Saturday’s championship game to meet the winner of South Dakota and top seed Utah Valley. The tournament winner will get a bid to the Collegeinsider.com postseason tournament.

Houston Baptist (5-26) tied the game with 5 seconds to play when Andrew Gonzalez made three free throws. Gonzalez led all scorers with 24 points. The Huskies were 10 for 10 from the free-throw line with Gonzalez making eight.

Troy Huff led North Dakota with 16 points. Mitchell scored 14, Jamal Webb had 11 points and Derek Benter had 10 points and eight rebounds.
