Ruling supports family’s proposed C. Ore. resort

BEND, Ore. (AP) — A family that is planning a destination resort near Sisters in central Oregon can apply to convert their subdivision and golf course under a state Land Use Board of Appeals ruling.

The Bulletin newspaper in Bend reports the board on Thursday upheld a controversial exemption the Deschutes County Commission issued to protect the resort plans by the Cyrus family.

Some neighbors opposed the plans because they didn’t want the Aspen Lakes golf course and subdivision converted into a destination resort.

The board’s decision will allow property to remain on the county’s resort eligibility map. But the board pointed out that does not guarantee approval for actual resort development plans.
