NASHUA, N.H. (AP) — A New Hampshire man charged in a deadly 2009 home invasion and machete attack says his mother lied about his upbringing during her testimony

Twenty-one-year-old Christopher Gribble testified Monday after a brief recess. He previously had admitted stabbing Kimberly Cates to death and trying to kill her 11-year-old daughter in their Mont Vernon home. But he says he’s not guilty by reason of insanity.

His mother, Tamara Gribble, testified earlier Monday that she once spanked him hard enough to break the wooden spoon she was using. But she denied other things he told the mental health counselors, including that he was forced to vacuum the house at age 6.

Christopher Gribble says he doesn’t have a friendly relationship with his mother and that she lied about his childhood.
