VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) — The Vancouver Canucks recalled defenseman Yann Sauve from Manitoba of the American Hockey League on Tuesday after Sami Salo was injured Monday night against Minnesota.

Salo went straight to the medical room late in the first period of a 4-2 win over the Wild after getting hit near the elbow of his left arm by a rising slap shot. The 36-year-old Salo, who missed the first four months recovering from a torn Achilles tendon, did not practice Tuesday and is listed as day-to-day.

The 21-year-old Sauve played his first three NHL games in mid-February with a Canucks team that is also missing defensemen Alexander Elder (back surgery), Kevin Bieksa (broken foot) and Andrew Alberts (broken wrist). Bieksa returned to practice Tuesday but isn’t expected to be ready for Wednesday’s game against Colorado.
