SEATTLE (AP) — An Oak Harbor family finally heard that their daughter in Japan survived the earthquake and tsunami.

KOMO News reports Rich and Julie Davies received a Facebook message Tuesday from a friend in Japan who had heard from their daughter Bethany Davies.

The 25-year-old who studied Asian cultures at Central Washington University has been teaching English near the hard-hit city of Sendai.

Now her family is worried because she is about 50 miles from the troubled nuclear plant complex.
