WELLINGTON, New Zealand (AP) — Former holder Team New Zealand has paid the entry fee for the 34th America’s Cup regatta off the coast of San Francisco in 2013, but team manager Grant Dalton says a decision is yet to be made over whether to compete.

With their entry fee paid to race management, New Zealand this week took possession of a new AC45 catamaran: a smaller, training version of the state-of-the-art yachts in which the Cup will be contested.

Team New Zealand, which won the race in 1995 and 2000, has signed on its long-term sponsors for the next regatta, but Dalton said Wednesday there was still a funding shortfall. Dalton says Team New Zealand would only take part “if we can be absolutely at the top of our game.”
