PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — The Portland Timbers have acquired Ugandan forward Brian Umony from the University of Pretoria FC.
Umony has been in camp with the Timbers during the preseason, scoring a goal in Portland’s draw with the L.A. Galaxy.
Portland will have the option of buying Umony’s rights after the loan term.
Umony has had eight goals in 11 international matches for the Ugandan national team.
The Timbers open their inaugural Major League Soccer season on Saturday at the Colorado Rapids.
