BEND, Ore. (AP) — A Deschutes County commissioner wants to slash District Attorney Patrick Flaherty’s salary by 20 percent because he believes the prosecutor is wasting taxpayer money on a grand jury investigation into the way the county handled a public records request by The Bulletin newspaper.
The Bulletin reports that Commissioner Tony DeBone said reducing the district attorney’s salary will help offset the cost of the investigation.
Flaherty has said he wants to find out whether the county intentionally released personal information about his employees, such as their driver’s license numbers and home addresses, on job applications requested by The Bulletin.
The two other Deschutes County commissioners said they were not ready to support a pay cut for Flaherty, but they were open to the idea.
