YAKIMA, Wash. (AP) — A break in an irrigation pipe flooded a road and three acres of an apple and pear orchard near Wapato.

Yakima Herald-Republic reports the pipe leaked Thursday as it was being filled for the first time this year by the Union Gap Irrigation District.

One car slid off a shoulder into the water as the driver was attempting to turn around. He got out safely.

The irrigation district says it will take about a week for repairs. The district serves about 3,500 acres in the Moxee area.
