PRINEVILLE, Ore. (AP) — Rewards up to $3,500 are being offered for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the shootings of three wild horses east of Prineville in central Oregon.

A Crook County sheriff’s deputies discovered the dead horses, two stallions and a pregnant mare, while on patrol Monday in the Ochoco National Forest near the Ochoco Ranger Station. The mare’s year-old foal was found unhurt, nuzzling its mother.

Deputies say all three horses had been shot and killed for no apparent reason.

KTVZ-TV in Bend reports the Central Oregon Wild Horse Coalition is offering a reward of $1,000 while the Humane Society of the United States announced Friday it is offering a reward of up to $2,500 for information leading to an arrest and conviction.
