LENZERHEIDE, Switzerland (AP) — Ivica Kostelic of Croatia is poised to take the men’s World Cup slalom title after his closest rival, Jean-Baptiste Grange of France, skied out in the first run of the final race Saturday.

Mario Matt of Austria leads after timing 41.27 seconds, 0.19 faster than Germany’s Felix Neureuther. Sweden’s Jens Byggmark was third, trailing Matt by 0.55.

Kostelic placed 13th, 1.18 back. He watched from the finish area as Grange started three racers later and failed to finish.

Kostelic is 28 points ahead of Grange in the standings and 95 clear of Sweden’s Andre Myhrer.

Myhrer must win the race, and hope Kostelic fails to get a top-15 scoring finish to deny the Croat the title.

Myhrer placed sixth, 0.66 behind Matt.
