Salmon Creek — Deborah Spofford’s quilt, “Shanghai Lights,” has been named one of 18 winners in the 2011 Orange Peel-themed New Quilts from an Old Favorite annual contest. Quilters were challenged to create original quilts based on the classic Orange Peel block pattern.

Spofford’s design is based on the view from her 36th floor window in Shanghai, China, where her family has been living for four years. The quilts will be on display through June 5 in the National Quilt Museum in Paducah, Ky. Spofford and her quilt will also be featured in a book published by the American Quilter’s Society.
