GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) — Chicago White Sox pitcher Jake Peavy was shut down while throwing in the bullpen with what doctors believe is rotator cuff tendinitis.
Peavy met with doctors after the session Sunday and they prescribed anti-inflammatory medication. He had been battling flulike symptoms late last week before pitching 5 2-3 innings against Oakland on Saturday.
The right-hander had surgery to repair a detached muscle in his right shoulder in July and had been setback-free so far this spring, posting a 4.11 ERA in 15 1-3 innings. He said the current issue is not related to the surgery.
Peavy said the next 48 hours will likely determine whether he starts Thursday as scheduled.
