JUPITER, Fla. (AP) — Washington manager Jim Riggleman says third baseman Ryan Zimmerman could be back in the lineup Thursday.

Zimmerman hasn’t played in a game since March 14 because of a sore groin. He has been taking batting practice.

The groin injury is unrelated to an abdominal strain that forced Zimmerman to miss three games earlier this spring. He’s 6 for 22 (.273) with two home runs in eight spring games.

Riggleman says a Thursday return would give Zimmerman enough time to be ready for the start of the season.

Zimmerman hit .307 with 25 home runs for Washington in 2010.
