MOSCOW (AP) — The executive director of the Russian figure skating federation says Moscow has been chosen as the replacement venue for this year’s world championships.
The event was to be held this week in Tokyo, but those plans were canceled after this month’s severe earthquake and nuclear crisis.
Skating federation executive director Valentin Piseyev tells The Associated Press on Thursday the championships will be held April 25-May 1 at Moscow’s Megasport arena.
The International Skating Union says it cannot comment until an official statement is made.
Moscow hosted the skating world championships in 2005, but at a different arena.
