ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) — Lady Sweetness defeated Hopeful Union by 12-length to win Friday’s $57,200 Half Moon Bay Purse for older fillies and mares.

Ridden by Martin Garcia, Lady Sweetness ran seven furlongs in 1:23.17 over the sloppy dirt track and paid $3.60, $2.80 and $2.20.

Hopeful Union returned $5.20 and $3.20, while Dani Reese was another 12-length back in third and paid $2.60 to show.

Lady Sweetness was a late comer to racing, with her first start coming in January after she turned 4 years old.

After losing by a neck in her debut, Lady Sweetness won by 534 lengths in her second race on Feb. 25. She is co-owned by Mitchell’s wife, Denise.

The victory, worth $33,600, increased Lady Sweetness’ career earnings to $76,800, with two wins in three starts.
