PARACHINAR, Pakistan (AP) — A local government official says suspected militants have attacked a minibus with rockets and gunfire in northwestern Pakistan, killing 8 people and wounding five others.

Javid Khan says the militants also kidnapped 18 people after Friday’s attack in the Bagan area of the Kurram tribal region. The people who were attacked were mainly Shiites.

The attack does not bode well for a recent peace accord in Kurram between rival Sunni and Shiite tribes that ended a four-year conflict that cost hundreds of lives.
