EVERETT, Wash. (AP) — Navy families had another emotional homecoming Monday as the destroyer USS Shoup returned after six months at sea with the aircraft carrier Lincoln’s strike group.

The USS Lincoln and another Everett-based destroyer, the USS Momsen, returned Thursday.

While supporting wars in Iraq and Afghanistan the Shoup also foiled an attack by Somal pirates in November on a merchant ship off Africa.

The Shoup dispatched a helicopter, and the pirates fled by the time a team from the Shoup boarded the ship and found the crew unharmed.
