HAVANA (AP) — Ex-President Jimmy Carter says he is not in Cuba to bring home a US contractor imprisoned on spy charges.

Carter says he has spoken with Cuban officials about the case of Alan Gross, but “I am not here to take him out of the country.”

He spoke in Spanish to reporters Tuesday during a visit to a senior center in Havana.

Carter arrived Monday with his wife Rosalynn for a three-day stay on the island.
