PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Portland police have arrested a teenage suspect in connection with the death of a 14-year-old girl who was missing since March 21.

Police say 16-year-old Parrish Bennett faces one count of murder and has been booked into the Multnomah County Juvenile Detention Center.

The slain girl, Yashanee Vaughn, was reported missing by her mother on March 21.

Police say evidence indicates Vaughn was killed on March 19, but have refused to disclose the nature of the evidence.

Vaughn’s disappearance was initially treated as a missing person’s case. On March 23, two detectives began working the case and on March 27, police say they received additional information that led them to issue search warrants.

Bennett was arrested early Thursday afternoon.
