DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — The IAAF says 800-meter world record-holder David Rudisha will miss this week’s season-opening, Diamond League race in Doha with a left foot injury.

Rudisha, the 2010 world athlete of the year, has been unable to train for the past week because of the injury but it is not considered serious and will not prevent him from racing in his other scheduled events.

Rudisha says through his management that he is “disappointed” not to race in the Doha Grand Prix.

The Kenyan’s physician described the injury as peritendinitis of the foot’s flexor muscles of the left lower leg, but added that there is “no injury of the ankle, no stress reaction/fracture, and no cartilage injury.”
