SALEM, Ore. (AP) — A murder trial is beginning in Salem for an Oregon State Penitentiary inmate accused of beating another prisoner to death.

The Statesman Journal reports 33-year-old Isacc Creed Agee is charged with aggravated murder in the 2008 killing of 36-year-old Antonio Barrantes-Vasquez who died of blows to the head.

Another man who was accused in the killing, James Demetri, pleaded guilty in March of last year and is serving a sentence of life in prison without parole. He was ineligible for a possible death penalty because he was found to be mildly retarded.
