Firefighters on Tuesday swiftly put out a small blaze confined to the attic of a house in Salmon Creek, north of Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center.
Crews from Clark County Fire District 6 and the Vancouver Fire Department rushed to 2304 N.E. 144th St. about 11:06 a.m. Tuesday. The first unit from Vancouver fire arrived minutes later.
By about 11:35 a.m., the fire was under control.
Insulation on an electrical wire had worn away, sparking the fire, Assistant Fire Marshal Richard Martin said in a bulletin from Dawn Johnson, spokeswoman for Fire District 6.
The home had working smoke detectors, but the fire in the attic didn’t activate them. A resident, whose name was not available, smelled smoke, went outside to safety and called 911 on her cellphone, the bulletin said.
