ZURICH (AP) — FIFA and international police agency Interpol will meet next week to step up soccer’s fight against match-fixing and corrupt betting.
FIFA says its president Sepp Blatter and Interpol secretary general Ronald Noble will announce progress after a session scheduled Monday at FIFA headquarters.
Blatter has acknowledged soccer’s problem with international matches being organized specifically for betting scams.
In February, two exhibitions — involving Latvia and Bolivia, Estonia and Bulgaria — were played in Turkey where all seven goals were scored from penalties.
FIFA charged six match officials from Hungary and Bosnia over their alleged part in the fixes.
