EUGENE, Ore. (AP) — Oregon Supreme Court Justice Martha Walters will deliver the commencement address at the University of Oregon School of Law later this month.

Walters is a 1977 graduate of the law school who was an employment rights attorney before she became the first woman to serve as president of the Uniform Law Commission.

Former Gov. Ted Kulongoski appointed her to Oregon’s highest court in 2006, and she was elected to a six-year term in 2008.

She is also a co-recipient of the law school’s 2011 Meritorious Service Award, given annually for extraordinary contributions to legal education and the law.

The law school graduation ceremony is set for May 21 at the Hult Center in downtown Eugene.
