ARLINGTON, Va. (AP) — Washington Capitals general manager George McPhee says he expects coach Bruce Boudreau to be back next season.

A day after Alex Ovechkin and the top-seeded Capitals were swept by the fifth-seeded Tampa Bay Lightning in the Eastern Conference semifinals, McPhee said Thursday he doesn’t “see major changes” coming.

Asked about the possibility of switching coaches, McPhee replied: “Does it really change things in most cases?”

It’s the fourth season in a row that Washington lost to a lower-seeded team in the first or second round under Boudreau. His postseason record is 17-20.

Owner Ted Leonsis wrote on his blog that he understands fans will “demand change,” but he thinks the “best course of action” is to let a few days pass.
