SEATTLE (AP) — Instead of turning over a ceremonial shovel, officials in Seattle will break a pinata Thursday to mark the start of construction for a new South Park Bridge.

King County says the 26-foot pinata was built by local artists and neighborhood volunteers to represent the new bridge.

The South Park Cinco de Mayo community festival will follow in the afternoon.
