S. Ore. horse health fair shows neglect a problem

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. (AP) — A health fair for horses in southern Oregon shows that neglect is still a problem.

The Herald and News reports that veterinarians and farriers volunteered their time last Saturday in Klamath Falls to help low-income horse owners take care of their animals.

They provided free vaccines, deworming, hoof care, dental and nutritional advice, and vouchers for dental care for all the 30 horses they saw.

Nadine Hoy of Project Spirit, a horse rescue operation in Keno, says the health fair was a success by helping horses and educating owners.

But she said the animals will continue to need expensive care, and it’s likely to be a problem for many owners.
