BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — The Southeastern Conference is pledging $500,000 to the University of Alabama to help storm victims.

The SEC announced the donation Thursday to support Alabama’s efforts in assisting students, faculty and staff that were affected by the April 27 tornados.

The contribution will supplement other individual institutional contributions and fundraising efforts.

University of Florida President Bernie Machen says league rivals “compete fiercely in athletics we also support each other fiercely in times of need.”
