Battle Ground police took a man safely into custody Friday evening after he reportedly was involved in a domestic dispute, was suicidal and holed up in his home with a rifle.

The incident around Southwest Fourth Avenue near Kiwanis Park surfaced shortly before 6 p.m. with a report of a shot fired, according to emergency radio traffic monitored at The Columbian.

Officers radioed that a woman had come outside with some weapons from her home, but that the man was inside and might have more guns.

Officers then called for SWAT officers and armored vehicles.

Minutes later, police radioed that the man was barricaded inside the home, was suicidal and had a rifle.

Police quickly evacuated some nearby apartments for residents’ safety.

At 6:38 p.m., officers said the man had emerged and was in custody. He was identified as Randle Paul Jones, 50, of Battle Ground. He was booked into the Clark County Jail on suspicion of domestic violence and discharging a firearm within city limits.

Jones suffered minor cuts from injuries received while he was breaking up items in the house, according to police. He was checked by medical personnel at the scene but did not require treatment or transport to a hospital. Two rifles and a handgun were taken into evidence. No one else was harmed.
