Canada reaches quarterfinals at hockey worlds

KOSICE, Slovakia (AP) — Canada advanced to the quarterfinals of the ice hockey world championship after beating Norway 3-2 on Saturday.

Jason Spezza, John Tavares and James Neal scored for Canada to jump to a 3-0 lead, before Ken Andre Olimb and Marius Holtet scored for Norway in the third period.

Canada leads Group F with 10 points and one game left.

Captain Rick Nash set up Spezza to put Canada up 1-0, 15:26 into the opening period, for his third goal of the tournament.

John Tavares scored his fourth at the worlds midway through the middle period on a breakaway to double the advantage. Nash had another assist on Neal’s goal for the third in the final period.
