INGLEWOOD, Calif. (AP) — Crown of Thorns beat Sidney’s Candy by 114 lengths Saturday in the $147,000 Mervyn LeRoy Handicap at Hollywood Park.

Ridden by Tyler Baze, Crown of Thorns ran 1 1-16 miles over Cushion Track in 1:42.73 and paid $7.40 and $2.60. Sidney’s Candy returned $2.10. There was no show wagering for the four-horse field.

The victory was worth $90,000 for Crown of Thorns, pushing his career earnings to $777,080. The win also moved trainer Richard Mandella into a tie with the late Bobby Frankel for most LeRoy wins with four. Mandella also won with Super May (1990), Siphon (1996) and Out of Mind (2000).

In other stakes races, M One Rifle won the inaugural $91,010 Cool Frenchy Stakes, and Star Billing took the $100,000 Senorita Stakes.
