EUGENE, Ore. (AP) — Two mothers are helping spur renovations at Eugene’s Willamette High School despite financial problems in the Bethel School District, including a budget shortfall of almost $6.5 million budget projected for the 2011-12 school year.

Brooke Cottle and Margaret Hansen each have four children whom they say will one day be Willamette Wolverines.

A couple of months ago, the mothers formed a group they call Willamette Pride, a subcommittee of the Bethel Education Foundation.

The group has worked to spruce up the 62-year-old high school.

The Register-Guard reports Cottle and Hansen have been on the phone for weeks, asking area businesses to contribute whatever they can to upgrade the high school.

The rest has been a landscaping project, a donation of chairs and other improvements.
