YELM, Wash. (AP) — A Thurston County sheriff’s officer says the bodies of a man and woman believed to be in their 80s have been found in a home near Yelm, Wash. Also found were glasses of a liquid whose fumes made deputies dizzy and nauseated.

Sheriff’s Lt. Greg Elwin says the dead are believed to be the couple who lived in the home, which was undisturbed and secured from the inside. They have not been officially identified.

Deputies checked the home Monday after neighbors and the mail carrier grew concerned that mail and garbage were piling up. Elwin says the two may have been dead as long as a week.

Elwin says a hazardous materials team responded late Monday to take air samples and try to determine what the noxious liquid was.
