ARLINGTON, Wash. (AP) — The Washington State Patrol says a car had stopped in a southbound lane of Interstate 5 about 3:30 a.m. Tuesday when it was rear-ended by a semi-truck.
The crash killed a passenger in the car, a 75-year-old Blaine woman.
The driver of the car, an 87-year-old Camano Island man, was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with critical injuries.
The patrol says the truck driver was not injured.
The accident and crash investigation tied up freeway traffic through the morning rush hour.
