PEDRENA, Spain (AP) — Some of Europe’s greatest golfers have arrived for the funeral of Seve Ballesteros in his hometown of Pedrena.
The tiny fishing village of 1,500 is welcoming Ryder Cup captains Nick Faldo, Colin Montgomerie, Sam Torrance and Jose Maria Olazabal on Wednesday for the service in the church of San Pedro de Pedrena.
Ballesteros’ ashes will be laid to rest under a magnolia tree in the family garden.
Ballesteros died of brain cancer on Saturday at age 54.
The golf great is considered the player who revived European golf through his five major wins, record 50 European Tour victories and Ryder Cup successes as a player and captain.
