MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Joe Mauer says he’s making progress and regaining strength in his legs but is still not ready to target a date when he’ll be back behind the plate for Minnesota.

Mauer took some swings off soft tosses and did some light work on the field before Tuesday’s game against Detroit. Manager Ron Gardenhire said the goal is for Mauer to take full batting practice with the team this week. But Mauer said he’s being careful not to rush back and risk doing more damage.

Mauer has missed 24 games with a condition the Twins have called bilateral leg weakness. He says he’s not concerned about how long he can continue to make a career out of catching, only about returning to the lineup as soon as he can.
