NEW YORK (AP) — A new professional indoor lacrosse league plans to start play next January.

League officials made the announcement Tuesday afternoon. The North American Lacrosse League will consist of at least six teams, commissioner Phil Evans says.

Teams, ownership groups, markets and arenas will be announced in upcoming weeks. Teams will play a 12-game regular season with additional exhibition games against international competition. The championship game will be held by the last weekend in April.

The NALL is competing with the National Lacrosse League, an existing indoor league that plays its season during the same time frame. Major League Lacrosse is an outdoor league that starts in May, so players can play in both.
