KENT, Wash. (AP) — Police in the south Seattle suburb of Kent say a 47-year-old bicyclist died after he was hit by a passenger train at a crossing.

Lt. Pat Lowery says Lonnie D. Moss of Kent was killed Tuesday night. Witnesses reported seeing the cyclist bypass downed traffic control gates at the West Gowe Street rail crossing and head into the crossing as the train arrived.

Lowery says the crossing is equipped with large, light-reflective gates as well as red flashing signals and audible bells. He says the cyclist was wearing a helmet and radio headphones, which may have limited his ability to hear the train.
