Current Camas City Councilman Scott Higgins officially announced Thursday that he plans to run for election to the mayor’s seat in the fall.

Higgins, who has been on the council for 10 years and is currently mayor pro-tem, makes the announcement following the recent decision by current Mayor Paul Dennis to resign to become the economic development director of the newly formed Camas-Washougal Economic Development Association.

As mayor pro-tem, Higgins said in a press release that he would be assuming the daily duties of mayor once the position is officially vacated by Dennis.

Higgins, married with two children, has lived in the local community for more than 30 years. He said he believes he is prepared to assume the duties of mayor.

“It has been an honor to serve Camas and I’m excited to continue that service as mayor.” Higgins said. “We have great opportunities in front of us and I am convinced I can help guide the city during the next four years.”

Additional details will be published in the May 17 print edition of the Post-Record.
