SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — The family of a 74-year-old Spokane Valley man who was killed by a sheriff’s deputy says they have lost trust in police.

Wayne Scott Creach’s widow, Imogene Creach, his son Alan Creach and other family members held a news conference Wednesday at the their nursery, called The Plant Farm, where he was shot.

Creach armed himself to investigate what he thought was a prowler last August and died in a confrontation with Deputy Brian Hirzel who was parked in an unmarked car. Official reviews found that the shooting was reasonable.

Imogene Creach says she used to be pro-police but now wants to duck when she sees a police car.

The family is asking the sheriff to stop parking unmarked cars on private property.
