Drivers can take state Highway 504 from Castle Rock to this weekend’s opening of the Johnston Ridge Observatory.

Crews have cleared 20 feet of late-spring snow from the highway to ensure visitors can attend the annual event, according to a news release from the Washington Department of Transportation.

State Highway 14, also known as Spirit Lake Memorial Highway, located east of Coldwater Lake at milepost 45, will open at 8 a.m. Saturday. The highway has been closed since December because of heavy snowfall.

Although the highway is clear now, the department of transportation cautions that more snow is forecasted in the area next week and drivers should be prepared for wintry conditions.
