SEATTLE (AP) — The University of Washington is launching a new accelerated teacher certification program for Teach for America participants.

The alternative pathway toward a teaching certificate will be available to Teach for America recruits who are hired by Seattle and Federal Way school districts. They will earn a fast certificate and then work toward a master’s degree in the UW College of Education.

Teach for America recruits, trains and supports recent college graduates and young professionals to teach in high-needs schools.

The nonprofit is opening a new base in Washington state this year.
