SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — Spokane fire officials say a man severely burned in an apartment fire has been flown to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

A fire department statement says witnesses described the unidentified man as being “on fire in the hallway of the first floor” of the Avondale Court apartments in downtown Spokane.

The Spokesman-Review says the man suffered third-degree burns on about 60 percent of his body as well as significant burns to his airway in Friday’s fire. His condition was not known.

Battalion Chief Clive Jones says about 25 tenants were temporarily displaced. The fire was confined to one unit and caused about $10,000 damage. Investigators are looking for the cause.
