TACOMA, Wash. (AP) — Retired South African Archbishop Desmond Tutu told 15,000 people in the Tacoma Dome on Friday night that God needs their help to heal the world’s ills.

The 79-year-old headlined a two-hour program celebrating hope and optimism with spirited performances by local singers and dancers.

The Greater Tacoma Community Foundation brought the retired Anglican archbishop to Tacoma to inspire youths and adults to take steps to build a more compassionate, caring community.
