PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — The preparation along Oregon’s coast for tsunamis is ramping up again with several communities scheduling drills the next two weeks.

The Oregon Department of Geology and Mineral Industries says drills are scheduled Tuesday in Pacific City and Neskowin and surrounding communities.

That will be followed by drills Thursday in the Gold Beach and Port Orford areas to the south and then on May 25 in Warrenton.

The departments says that in the Pacific City, Gold Beach and Port Orford drills, residents will hear warnings from airborne public address systems.

It says those messages have been developed as a way of alerting residents in areas of limited siren coverage about the danger of tsunamis rolling in from long distances.
