BEND, Ore. (AP) — A utility in the high desert of central Oregon is helping to fund a wave power pilot project off the Oregon coast.

The Bulletin newspaper in Bend reports that Redmond-based Central Electric Cooperative is interested in the potential of wave power, partly because it is a renewable energy resource.

Under state law, a utility the size of Central Electric Cooperative needs to get 5 percent of its electricity sales from renewable energy by 2025.

The utility is also working on wind and solar power, but managers say they’re looking at other sources of renewable energy too.
